The Nevada Incident
The Incredible Hulk had long walked the line between hero and menace, but this time he seemed to have tipped the scales entirely to the side of chaos, engaging in a rampage that left huge portions of the Southwest United States in ruin.
What began the Hulk’s rampage has never been established. But the world knows how it ended. Doctor Hank Pym, aka the Astonishing Ant-Man, and his partner, The Wasp, engaged the Hulk in a desperate battle in the Mojave. Pym’s intention was to use his miraculous Pym Particles to shrink the Hulk to a place where he could not hurt anyone. Unfortunately, the unique nature of the Hulk’s gamma-based biology reacted unpredictably with the Pym Particles. A sort of miniature black hole erupted in the desert, pulling the Hulk through, and threatening to create a global catastrophe. The Wasp bravely flew into the heart of the maelstrom, ending the threat, but also disappearing to wherever the Hulk had gone.
Facing the lost of a friend and colleague, as well as the loss of his partner and paramour, Pym sank into a deep depression, and was soon committed to Ravenscroft Asylum for his own well-being.
